Sarah Kay Fuhs
Sarah is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist who graduated from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in 2017. Sarah has over 10 years of experience working with individuals living with severe mental health challenges such as Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, substance use disorder, and anxiety. Sarah believes that individuals need to deeply understand how their maladaptive behaviors are affecting their lives and learn skills that will support them in positively moving forward. Using concrete goals combined with enhancing naturally available support systems, the individual, family or partnership can become “unstuck”. Sarah also has experience working as a school-based counselor with elementary and middle schoolers.
As a clinician, she uses a trauma-informed care model, and is sensitive to the unique life events that each person has experienced. She has advanced certifications in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and has been trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She often incorporates fun art therapy as a means of processing emotions that might be difficult to verbalize.
Sarah was born and raised in San Mateo County, and has two grown children, two dogs, and is proud to be on the board of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Her spare time is devoted to rooting for the Giants, reading mystery novels, and spending time outdoors enjoying nature.
