Sarah Kay Fuhs
Sarah is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist as well as an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor who graduated from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in 2017. Sarah has over 10 years of experience working with individuals living with severe mental health challenges such as Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder, and Borderline personality Disorder. The majority of her work has been treating substance use disorder and anxiety. Sarah believes that individuals need to deeply understand how their maladaptive behaviors are affecting their lives and learn skills that will support them in positively moving forward. Using concrete goals combined with enhancing naturally available support systems, the individual, family or partnership can become “unstuck”.
As a clinician, she uses a trauma-informed care model, and is sensitive to the unique life events that each person has experienced. She has advanced certifications in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and has been trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She often incorporates fun art therapy as a means of processing emotions that might be difficult to verbalize. Her current day job is working with the seriously mentally ill experiencing homelessness in San Mateo County, supporting them by obtaining therapy in the streets.
Sarah was born and raised in San Mateo County, and has two grown children, two dogs, and is proud to be on the board of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Her spare time is devoted to rooting for the Giants, Sharks, Warriors, and 49ers.
