Laura Macfarlane
Laura is a licensed clinical social worker, treating children ages 4-12 and their parents. She is passionate about promoting the social, emotional and behavioral well being of children. Laura’s particular areas of expertise are anxiety disorders, including OCD, changing families issues including separation and divorce and creating successful school experiences for children. She also supervises pre-licensure clinicians.
Laura earned a Master of Social Work from Boston University and has additional training in child trauma, cognitive behavioral therapy, OCD, family systems and family therapy from Smith College and other training programs.
In her clinical work, Laura uses evidenced based treatment modalities including family systems, cognitive behavioral therapy and parent management training. She uses a systems approach to treatment, collaborating with parents, school personnel and other professionals as needed.
In addition to being a child therapist, Laura is an elementary school counselor where she focuses on prevention and early intervention in children’s mental health. She has worked in Boston Public Schools and in elementary schools in the San Francisco Bay Area. Currently, she is the school counselor at White Oaks Elementary School in San Carlos.
